Students finished up I-Ready testing today with a reading diagnostic (math was on Monday). While not formal assessments, the I-Ready helps us teachers to formulate a baseline and develop educational plans as we move forward in our year. We really appreciated how students were focused and attentive to this task.
One of our routines is to have a "family meeting" right after lunch. This is an opportunity for the entire class to come together for announcements, shout-outs, celebrations and any other information that we need to get out to students. After modeling what the meetings should look like, we've opened it up for students to lead this week. We've been impressed by the courage of those willing to sign up and how well they can execute a meeting.
In the afternoon, after some technical difficulties, we introduced students to the concepts of fixed and growth mindsets. Based on the research of Carol Dweck, coming to school each day with a growth mindset is essential in the development of our students. To that end, students have homework this evening to view and take notes on one or two additional growth mindset videos. These videos can be accessed via google classroom and their humanities page.
Have a great Tuesday Gryphons!
