It was lovely to see all your 6th graders' smiling faces this morning! We trust you all had enjoyable holidays. We are ready to kick it into high gear for the last three weeks (oh my goodness!) of the calendar year. Don't forget about our shoe service project/fundraiser! Send in those new and gently used shoes through mid February. Thanks!

During Science students reviewed their rubrics for the Wegener CER written before the break. Anyone earning a Below score is required to rework and resubmit. Students who earned a Progressing are highly encouraged to Meet the expectation and make changes and resubmit. Resubmittals are due by next Monday 12/9. Then we dove into plate tectonics. After watching two short videos, students began their own research to discover and understand the 4 different types of plate boundaries. HOMEWORK The question posted in Google Classroom is due Wednesday morning by 9:00 a.m.

In Humanities we created NewsELA accounts. Each civilization was assigned different articles to read and annotate. They are reading specifically to learn about social classifications their ancient civilization held. If students have yet to finish one of the articles, that is HOMEWORK tonight.

We finally started a new unit today: Unit 2, RATIOS! It’s been a slow start but it’s good to get these foundations set before we can move into the calculations of ratios. I want the kids to get to know the lingo and the language of ratios. Some have it down but some are still struggling on how to say “for every ______, there are/is __________.” It’s important to understand the concept of ratios before diving into more complex situations like rates, unit rates, and percentages in the next few weeks. Tomorrow you’ll have a TAN handout coming home on how best to support your learner in math if you find that they are struggling in this unit.

HOMEWORK Lesson 1 Practice Problems. Answer Key is posted in Google Classroom.
