Late starts are different days for us here at Odyssey. Our plan is to spend this time in whole group activities. Today's was a STEM challenge. Triads made up of members from each house collaborated to create a roller coaster for a marble. Our parameters were the drop had to be at least 30 cm, the marble had to stay on the track design, and then safely land in a designated spot. Materials available were 20 paper plates, 20 index cards and masking tape. We worked until lunch time testing out our designs. After lunch, groups were encouraged to browse their peers' ideas and then further challenged to alter their original design to include a "wow-factor". At 2:00 everyone got to see all the coasters in action. Check out our Facebook and Instagram for videos and photos (LINKS PAGE)! Not a member yet? Make a request! We'd love to have you join us there!
Another thing we did today was begin using our Collaboration Rubric to become better group members. This rubric can be found in the planner (page 4). Tomorrow, students will be asked to evaluate themselves and their teammates based on today's STEM project.
No New Homework!
Tomorrow is a "Go" day for electives.
