Another busy day for our 6th grade colonists. Groups made decisions about where exactly to put down on Mars and set up their colonies. CERs (written paragraphs that state a Claim, provide Evidence and explain Reasoning) about their ideal location are due in Science Classroom Thursday morning by 11:00 a.m. In math students worked with geometric or algebraic concepts. Check Pearson and Google Classroom for specific "mission" assignments! We read Chapter 2 of The Martian today. Lots of great discussion about Mark Watney's character traits. He seems to have a good sense of humor and while serious, does crack a good joke now and then. Questions are assigned for every 5 chapters read and can be worked on while the chapters are read. The first set of questions will be due next Tuesday, April 16.

Students are getting excited about earning funding, too. This is a component of unit. Completing assignments and meeting deadlines earn funding for each colony. There are opportunities for bonuses, too! Colony must also be respectful of their resources and environment or they can also incur deductions. Colonies are recognized for earning the most in a single day. Totals will be part of their final presentation, representing how much success their colony design has had along the way and indicating how successful their design could be if selected.

Thanks to the families who've sent in pots for us to use in our upcoming GROW mission. Keep them coming! We could still use soil or fertilizer donations. You can drop them off by Friday morning with Ms. Penny.
