Today was the waste audit and it was eye opening! Green Rotation helped determine how to sort the waste we collected and figured out the size of the area we would use. Yellow rotation prepared all the materials we would need and set everything up. During the audit, students wore gloves and sifted through learning space and lunch waste. Other students held collection bags and tallied the items being put in. Several students recorded the sort with iPad cameras and another group of students weighed the waste. Please ask your kids about this experience. That is their only HOMEWORK, to tell you about it. On Monday, Blue and Red rotations will sort out the data and look for trends.
In Humanities, students took a vocabulary and spelling quiz over words they had been studying throughout the week. Students then started a novel with their rotations. They will be reading these novels for the next few weeks. Red and Green rotations began reading The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau while Blue and Yellow rotations started A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. HOMEWORK, argumentative paragraph for Red and Green rotations is due Monday.
Today we skipped to Lesson 15 for BLUE and RED groups! We learned how to use tape diagrams more efficiently so now we have THREE different models and strategies to organize ratios! The kids did a GREAT job with tape diagrams so it was really fun. And don’t worry, we will come back to Lesson 14 next week! KEEP NOTE: Assessment will be next week for END OF UNIT 2!
HOMEWORK: Lesson 15 Practice Problems!
