No Llama-Drama here, just another highly productive day of learning. Let's see what your young gryphons were up to today. (And don't forget about our shoe collection fundraiser!)

During Humanities we used our time as a work day. Groups are making headway on their ancient civilization projects. They also created a goal sheet to track their progress throughout this process. Homework self assigned to meet group generated deadlines.

In science we took a pivot. We found the National Geographic GeoChallenge which encourages us design, create, and present a solution for preventing or reducing plastic pollution in a waterway. Click here for a video! This really helps us focus our attention on the other earth science standard we explore in 6th grade: human impact on earth's resources. Today we launched with a video that shocked many of our students. Hawaii is facing a plastic problem and it is impacting sealife as well as our own! Newly formed teams created a group masterpiece that underscored how in groups we collaborate to make a product that ends up with everyone contributing but doesn't necessarily look like what an individual may have initially imagined. These teams also devised some norms to help make their teams successful. Homework think of a team name. Also - double check you aren't missing any work in Google Classroom!

Today we started Lesson 5 (we skipped Lesson 4!) and the kids used their knowledge to define what they thought equivalent ratios should be and how to make new equivalent ratios. We used a tuna casserole recipe and found out how much of each ingredient we would need, and what the multiplier means (it means how many batches we want to make!). Now would be a GREAT time to review how to multiply fractions if you know your kiddo struggles with “summer brain” and might’ve forgotten that little skill. Khan Academy is a great resource for some quick drill and kill…er…practice. ;)

HOMEWORK: whatever is in their planner! Each rotation is in a different spot so we stopped at different places in Lesson 5.
