Work continues on our trifolds for Friday’s showcase during Science time. Students are encouraged to arrange their pictures on a document to be printed at school and make sure their text is typed up and formatted to be printed. Thursday and Friday class time and Thursday PLT are the last work sessions available to kids. Time is of the essence. Looking forward to seeing family members on Friday between 12:30 and 1:15!
Today in math we moved through tape diagrams to help visualize and write equations to using hanger diagrams (like nursery mobiles!) to balance equations. There’s a fun new website that has lots of hanger puzzles for students to practice (kids can access this on a Google Classroom—ask them to see it!).
HOMEWORK: practice balancing hanger puzzles! Do at least 10!
Yellow and Blue rotations participated in their Socratic Seminar about The City of Ember. While half the class worked on the seminar, the other half read chapter 9 and 10 and took notes on the setting and sensory details. Homework: Vocab/spelling quiz and writing assignment due Friday.
The "Salsa" rotations spent the day questioning the text and making inferences about, "What is the Dark Thing" that the characters saw shadow the earth. We will continue this idea in the coming days as students discuss their interpretations. We then transitioned to students working on their character profiles. These will be due on Monday. HOMEWORK: Vocabulary #2 - due tomorrow with quiz; Character Profiles - due Monday.
Social Studies:
Yellow and Green rotations worked on researching travel advisories and the government of their assigned country. There are three great links on the Humanities Google Classroom for students to use in finding out information on their countries. Students have three more classes to complete the Travelogue before presentations (March 25th for Yellow and Green). Homework: Research your country!
