Looks like it's going to be a gorgeous week and a busy one, at that.
Science: In groups, our Gryphons are creating a skit to show how the parts of the brain talk to each other. Science has seeped out into the rest of our day with discussions about how the prefontal cortex is involved with making good/not-so-good decisions.
Math: Mrs. Stalheim is seeing the magic of creativity with the creation of the infamous 6th grade FOLDABLE. This project is due Friday.
ELA: We've started our geography unit today with an announcement about the Geography Games, also a rite of passage in 6th. I told your kiddos that we are typically not a "memorize stuff and test on it" type of school, but it's a bit different with geography. We believe it's very important as a citizen of the world to know where things ARE in the world. We will be doing a model UN activity, among other current event-themed projects. Knowing which continent countries are on is a useful skill (as an adult too). You will see a paper packet come home with maps of all the continents. On one page is map with the country names and on the other is a blank map for studying. Our test ("quizzeepoo") schedule is:
9/26 North America, Central America and South America
10/2 Asia
10/5 Europe
10/9 Africa
Thanks in advance for your help with the studying!
**There's also a continent song to be sung from memory tomorrow if your child chooses to go for an extra point for his or her house.""
Here are the lyrics:
Asia, North and South America,
Africa, Antarctica
and Australia…
Europe is the only one
that doesn’t have an “a”.
Indian, Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific…
We will be so specific
when we name the seven continents
and the four oceans.
