What a fun Friday it was!

We launched into our first big anchor project: ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS! This project will span over 2.5 months and our audience will include you and current 5th graders. This year, we are studying the following Ancient Civilizations: Inca, Greece, and the Shang Dynasty. Because we are going to be visiting OMSI's King Tut Exhibit, we will also have a big of Egypt under our belt. In order to group students, we had them rank the civilization they're most interested in, and teachers will use that info to help form who will study what country. Some students will receive 2nd or 3rd, but we will try our best to get them 1st. :)

To launch our project today we took a tour around the Lascaux Caves (aka our Assembly Room) where the oldest cave drawings are located (the real caves being in France). Mrs. Blair and Mrs. Motsinger spent a lot of time setting up this cool feature so please ask your student about this experience and what neat artifacts and drawings were in there!

In math, we had a fun time doing a number talk, and discussing why people see and do math differently. We had different views and rich conversation about something as simple as a few dots on a page and how that can be interpreted as math.

Lastly, today was the last day of Curiosity Cruising, and students should be done with their entire project. Encourage your student to practice their presentation with you this weekend. If you're going on a trip, maybe have them practice in the car! :)

ENJOY YOUR 3-DAY WEEKEND! DON'T FORGET TO PREPARE FOR OMSI ON TUESDAY!
