Humanities:
Team Salsa continued reading A Wrinkle in Time today focusing on establishing who are characters are, as well as discussing author’s purpose in choosing words. We also reviewed our vocabulary words for the week through a short activity, with a reminder that the stories are due on Thursday at which time students will have a spelling and definition quiz.
Blue and Yellow continued reading The City of Ember in their new reading groups. Each reading group created a team name today as well as group norms. Students will be in these reading groups for the next four weeks. We also reviewed our vocabulary words for the week and were reminded that our writing assignment and spelling/vocab quiz is due Friday!
Science:
Lots of busyness during science and project time this afternoon. Teams are working hard to be ready to race tomorrow or Thursday. The race will help us identify our potential top 5 representatives for the Clark County Solar Car Challenge next Saturday, March 14th. We also had some reminder conversations that not having a racer ready to go does not mean you fail this unit. This is all about the learning process. Reflection videos and engineering notebooks are key to sharing that learning with me and will come in very useful when we begin creating our tri-folds for next week’s showcase. Please mark your calendars for Friday, March 13th from 12:30 to 1:15. Hope to see you there!
MATH: Today we moved further into percentages, and even connected fractions with decimals and percents! We found that there are 3 parts in finding the percent of a number: A is B% of C, where Ais the part, B is the percent, and C is the whole or total. All students should feel comfortable using the terminology of “part” and “whole” and percentage.
HOMEWORK (yellow, red, blue): Lesson 14 Practice Problems
