Today we blended our content areas into Hu-MATH-ities and HumaniScience!

Mr. More and Mrs. Motsinger partnered today. We started with an activity about the importance of following directions so as to avoid wasted time and making avoidable mistakes. Ask your kiddos about this! Next we talked about proper research and converting that new knowledge to written work that demonstrates learning. We did this with a word and definition sort. Students recognized that there are some practices they engage in that absolutely do NOT demonstrate their learning. These were Copy/Paste, Repeat, Plagiarism and Google-Think (a term Mr. More created to describe just taking the very first search result Google gives you without even visiting the full site.) Instead we wish for students to engage in Summarizing, Analyzing, Understanding, Thinking, Researching and Creating Original Work. Following this informational session, students' Brain Brochures were returned with explicit directions to replace the Copy/Pasted, Plagiarized, and Google-Thought content with their own ideas that demonstrated understanding, and to double check they had followed the directions for the project. All students worked very well to make improvements, and this work will continue during Science tomorrow. HOMEWORK Dynamic Earth Quiz results (from interactive website) due by 2:00 tomorrow.

During Hu_MATH-ities, Ms. Drier took half the students for presentations on the Greatest Accomplishment of their ancient civilization. The other half worked on a math test of unit 1. HOMEWORK none

A request. Would you be willing to share your expertise with students on our campus? We are creating a database of parents, community members who are willing to share their time, talent or treasures with us. Please use the following link to let us know how you would be interested. Thanks!
