What a crazy day! But then again, when it is not? :)

I hope everyone gets to celebrate chili day today, OR it's also National Toast Day, and National Protein Day! I hope we are also taking National Polar Bear Day into consideration, but not for eating, for preserving. Long live the polar bears!

Science:

We continue to work on our solar cars. Many students transitioned to different materials for their actual designs and the Exacto knives and glue guns are out for use! Students were asked to start bringing in the tri-folds that will be used in their showcase of learning. These need to be here by next Friday, March 7. Are you interested in helping out with the race next Wednesday or Thursday? I could use a mom or dad or two to help keep track of time and keeping kids queued. Please email kerin.motsinger@camas.wednet.edu if either day 8:30 to 10:45 works for you. (Green & Yellow race March 4 and Blue & Red race on March 5).

Math:

Red rotation had another serious talk about making math learning a priority and then THEY DID IT! They bounced back in a matter of seconds and got to work straight away, and helped each other out. They asked great questions, learned about a percent being out of 100 and how to relate money to percentages.

HOMEWORK: Lesson 11.3 (pg. 310)

Blue: today we moved from Lesson 8 to Lesson 10 and 11! We learned about percentages and how they are just rates out of 100. We used money to help us reason about percentages.

HOMEWORK: Lesson 11.3 (pg. 310)

Humanities (from Mr. More):

Blue and yellow rotations were split into two separate activities for today. Half the students participated in a Socratic Seminar covering the themes of A Wrinkle in Time. These are truly some of my favorite teaching moments as I’m always impressed with the ideas students bring to these discussions. Today’s takeaway involved what it means to “know” something – with knowledge coming from the three pillars of instinct, experience and observation. While those students were discussing the novel, the other half were visualizing what the “Dark Things” or evils or poisons of our society are and who the heroes fighting them are. Tomorrow, groups will switch. A reminder that we will be switching reading rotations after tomorrow, so students who are missing any vocabulary or the three reading assessments need to complete their work by Monday.
