Today was SO fun! There was a crime scene in our collaboratory and we were invited to become OMS Agents to investigate and collect evidence. Student groups were told police were called to a two bedroom, one bathroom beach house on a warm afternoon. A body was removed from the scene but a traced outline was in place. We collected cups with fingerprints and various liquids. There were footprints and a possible blood trail. Then later we spoke with Officer Scott Creager, a former Vancouver detective and current Portland Port Authority Officer. He shared the importance of protecting evidence and recording all evidence as thoroughly as possible. Then we heard more about what happened at the beach house and what the suspects had to stay. The big idea today was keeping our inferences out of our observations. We only recorded exactly what we saw.
In math we talked about DEEP LEARNING. This connects to making claims connected to evidence and reasoning. AT HOME - students will try to convince you about a math idea using a folded piece of paper. Please refer to handout your student has. Here's an extra!
Humanities was also about the claim, evidence and reasoning! Our kids had to make a claim about Goldilocks supported by evidence and then explain the reasoning behind why that evidence supports the claim. This writing assignment is due in Google Classroom on Tuesday.
