Wow, what an interesting celebration. We wouldn't mind a few extra staplers around here, if you happen upon a good deal we will accept donations! Tomorrow, all 4 of us will be at a planning session in the morning to prepare for the next big project happening after Spring Break. We would appreciate you giving your students a reminder to shine like the exemplary students they are when guest teachers are around.
New and interesting things are happening in 6th grade. Today we began an enrichment project, focusing on some of the more creative side of projects. Students chose between lettering, vision boards, drama and outdoor photography to enhance their skills in presentation. We are excited to be having some fun with them through the end of March. HOMEWORK If students are in the Vision Board class, PLEASE bring in any magazines, pictures, and trinkets to decorate our boards.

During Science, we continued to work on our trifolds for the Solar Car Showcase this coming Friday. Do you have it on your calendars? Please come see our learning between 12:30 and 1:15 in the 6th grade learning space. HOMEWORK you can work on typing up the text that will be on your trifold.
In Math we started a brand new unit today! Unit 6: Expressions and Equations! We are skipping Unit 4 and 5 and coming back to those topics after Spring Break (Unit 4 and 5 cover long division, which will be sprinkled throughout this unit, too). We started learning about VARIABLES, COEFFICIENTS, and SOLUTIONS and how they help us in Algebra. We worked on using tape diagrams to visualize math, and why it’s important visualize math (it helps our skills be stronger!).
NO HOMEWORK! YAHOO!
The salsa rotations (red and green) read chapter 5 of A Wrinkle in Time today. We then focused on building character profiles by listing facts, details and finding adjectives for our six main characters. My expectation is that for each character students find 4-6 facts and details, and 3 adjectives that describe the character. This will be due tomorrow for green rotation, while red will have some class time to finish. Also, students have a new round of vocabulary (see attached) this week that will be due on Thursday, at which time they will have a spelling and definition quiz.
Yellow and Blue rotations read The Starfish Story and made many different text connections both to their own lives as well as to The City of Ember. HOMEWORK: Socratic seminar prep due Wednesday. Vocab writing assignment and quiz will be on Friday.
Social Studies:
Yellow and Green rotations were given instructions for the Travelogue project. Students were put into their groups and chose their countries that they will be researching. Homework: Students may continue with cultural research for their project.
