Hopefully you've been hearing about our latest project, ACTING! Student groups have been writing and rehearsing plays inspired by images by Harris Burdick. The goal is to have a performance ready piece for Thursday with 7th grade filling in as our audience. It's a quick turn around that not only promotes writing and speaking skills, but is an excellent vehicle for practicing collaboration skills. Our students provide and receive regular feedback from each other specific to how they are functioning as team members. This allows each of them to continue successful strategies and set goals to improve weaker skills. Tomorrow is the last rehearsal day, so please encourage your sons and daughters to practice their lines tonight. Memorization is required!
Math time has been given to students to create scaled maps and balanced mobiles (a very clever way or introducing algebra!) Two groups of students have been assigned homework this evening, while the other two are approaching the map project deadline! Please check with your student and Google Classroom/Pearson to determine what homework should be attempted this evening.
Science wrapped up solar cars with a fun experience on Saturday. Perhaps you saw the article in the Columbian? 6th grade brought 11 teams to the competition at Hudson's Bay High School. It was really fun to watch the cars on the race track lined up against cars engineered by middle school students at neighboring schools. In the end we did not earn any medals, but gained a lot of experience! Some students are still finishing up their trifolds and need to be interviewed by myself or Mrs. Dixon, but we expect that to be completed Wednesday. All students need to have submitted a video self reflection through Google Classroom about the solar car experience. This is due tomorrow before the end o f the school day. Please encourage your child to submit early!
